5 Rustic Bedroom Design and Decor Ideas for a Cozy Space

Spring is upon us and once again, it’s time to give your home a quick makeover. We especially prefer to focus on styling our bedroom because it is that one room in our home that we can specifically call our own, and it’s where we spend our time the most.

Of all the different interior design styles out there, though, we prefer the rustic look the most. It has this homey vibe and it really sets out our bedroom to be a place of comfort and relaxation. If you think so too, then here are some of our favorite rustic bedroom design and decor ideas to make your personal sanctuary cozier and more calming.

Color and Texture

The first thing that we can do is to set the canvas of your rustic bedroom. You’d want the colors to be warm and neutral like whites, beiges, and browns. For a cooler color option, you can opt for achromatic gray hues.

If you want to add more texture and interest, (and you have the extra budget), you can install an accent wall made of reclaimed wood.

Finally, for those who have the chance to redesign the entire room made for scratch, opt for exposed wooden beams for that perfect rustic foundation.

Keep these color schemes and textures in mind, because they are recurring themes in rustic design.

Home Accessories

You don’t have to undergo a major renovation in order to achieve the look that we’re going for, though. In fact, sometimes adding small details like perfectly curated home interior accessories and decor is already enough to give you the rustic, cozy feel.

Lighting

Light fixtures, for instance, are pieces that you can easily incorporate into your bedroom and make a big impact at the same time. While metal pieces like globular chandeliers are generally considered industrial, they can work really well in the rustic aesthetic.

Vintage pieces also work great. A classic crystal chandelier, for example, can serve as a great accent piece.
Don’t limit yourself to ceiling lights too. Wall sconces, decorative lighting, and table lamps with metal and wood detailing will also do the trick.

Wall Art

While your vintage wall sconces can already double as decorative pieces of wall art, there are definitely other ideas that you should consider. Animal horns and antlers mounts can definitely give that cabin vibe to any bedroom.

Mirrors on vintage frames and antique paintings will also do the trick. In fact, getting a large-scale framed mirror that can span from floor to ceiling will not only help to bounce the natural light across the room, creating a warm and brighter atmosphere, but it can also create that illusion of space and make your bedroom seem bigger.

Carpets and Rugs

Most people focus on the walls and furnishings when decorating, and while we also think that these elements can definitely make or break a room, we don’t accept it as a good enough reason to ignore an equally important part of any interior space: the floor.

Wooden flooring is almost a given if you’re really serious about getting that rustic aesthetic down perfectly, but remember that its hard surface can be cold and unforgiving. Hence, laying down an area rug or layering a couple of rugs can help soften up your floors and make the room a lot cozier.

Again, we prefer sticking to warm neutral colors, but this doesn’t mean that your carpets and rugs should be boring. Add some interest by experimenting with different materials and textures instead.

The Bed

Finally, let’s move on to the focal point of every bedroom. The bed. Here are some design ideas to consider when choosing the perfect bed to match your rustic bedroom:
-A wooden bed frame and headboard. We suggest getting the biggest size that you can for extra comfort. Here’s a unique idea if you want to turn your bed into the perfect spot to snuggle in while reading a good book: install industrial barn lighting straight to your headboard.

-A thick mattress and sheets. When in doubt, choose white as the color of your sheets. You can simply style it up with throw pillows and blankets later on.

-Blankets. Speaking of blankets, opt for handmade such as crocheted or quilted pieces for added texture.
Rustic is a warm and cozy aesthetic that you can easily achieve with warm color choices, natural elements, metal detailing, and soft textures. By keeping the tips we have shared with you in mind, we’re sure that you will come up with the perfect rustic sanctuary to hide away and relax in, especially after long and tiring days. Have fun!
