How To Deal With Depression?

With everything going on in the world, many people feel sad, distant from their loved ones, unmotivated, and lack the energy to go through their daily tasks. This can be a sign of depression, a major mental condition that can turn your motivation and mood upside down. If you feel this way, you aren’t alone. Millions of people all over the world suffer from depression every year and trying to deal with depression.

That is why I, Roger El Smara, one who enjoys writing books about health and wellness, mindfulness, and self-help, took it upon myself  to explain how to deal with depression.

Exercise regularly

Exercising regularly helps reduce depression. Take some time out on your busy schedule to take a brisk walk for 20-30min. Although, people that struggle with depression don’t feel active, however, making yourself do it will help suppress the symptoms. You can also ask your friends or members of your family to exercise with you if you need someone to motivate you. Once you start exercising every day, you will notice a huge difference in your mood. Breathing exercises such as yoga and meditation can also help relieve the feeling of depression. Do it every morning and evening before bedtime to achieve a perfect goal.

Strong social support

Depression increases when people struggling with it isolate themselves. Therefore, one of the best things that help relieve depression is by developing strong social support. Forging strong ties with your friends and family helps you understand you can count on them. They will also be your support system which helps reduce your depression symptoms. Many support groups are also available that allow people who are struggling with depression to come together to share their journey and help each other. These groups can be found online and in many communities.

Go for therapy

Seeing a therapist is one of the best ways to deal with depression. Although there are many articles online that give helpful tips to reduce symptoms of depression, they are not a substitute for therapy. Research has shown that people who go for therapy when struggling with depression often find lasting solutions. Therapy is recommended to people who are looking for a long-term and effective way of dealing with depression.

Eat healthy

People struggling with depression often lose or have an appetite. This means some people might not eat at all while others overeat. You need to be extra mindful of the type of food you eat when dealing with depression. You must eat the right food to keep yourself healthy. If depression has affected your appetite, eating the right diet can influence your mood and energy. Fruit and vegetables are a great choice of nutrients. Try to take some every day to boost your immune system and keep you going even if you don’t feel like eating.

Improve your sleep

Research has shown that sleep ultimately affects human mood. According to a survey, 80% of people with major depression experience sleeping disorders. If you feel like you can’t sleep or struggle to get out of bed in the morning, you might be depressed. Turn off the electronics in your room for at least one hour before your bedtime and use some light if you want to do other activities within that period. Stay away from your bed during the day and only use it for relaxing or sexual activities.

The bottom line

Many people are going through difficult times, both emotionally and financially which can lead to depression. Ignoring the symptoms of depression only makes it worse and can affect your emotions, social life, and even job. Therefore, you need to seek help because you deserve to be happy.
