Travelogue

What are the best ways to fund your travels?

There are numerous ways you can see the world. You can opt for the nomad lifestyle or visit different destinations on intermittent luxury holidays. Travelling is a fantastic experience that can enrich your life and provide you with invaluable experiences. Some forms of travelling are more affordable than others.

The backpacker method is the traditional budget-friendly way to visit various countries by staying in youth hostels, using public transport, and opting for more affordable destinations. Here there are a few other ways to save money while travelling the world.

Travel slowly

Slow travel is the best way to immerse yourself in a culture and save money. Rent an apartment for a month and see if you can get a discounted price for the extended stay. Choose a less touristy area to get a feel for the culture and way of life – just make sure it’s safe first. You can then move onto the next place and the next over a few months. Slow travel can drastically reduce your transport expenses and give you a chance actually to live in a place – instead of just visiting.

Set up a side hustle

Many businesses are operated remotely these days, and you can set up a company from pretty much anywhere in the world. If you have a skill, like writing or graphic design on hand, set up a freelance business and start earning extra cash. Forex trading is also a great way to make money – try setting up a demo account before you travel to see if it’s something you’re interested in.

Rent out your parking space

If you have a parking space at home, why not rent it out? There’s no point wasting money on renting accommodation and parking spaces when you are not there to use them. Rent out your space and look into renting out your apartment too. Just make sure to check with the rules of your contract if you’re a renter to avoid any unexpected fees or arguments.

Get a part-time or full-time job

Many people apply for a full time before moving abroad and then live in one location for several years. You can build your career, live abroad, and start a life in a new destination. You will probably need to know the local language to get a full-time there.  If the language barrier is an issue for you, you may need to look at moving to an English-speaking country instead.

Or, you could get a part-time job as a waitress or bartender instead. Part-time jobs are great if you need a little extra cash and you’re staying in a place for a few months. Some hostels offer cleaning and catering jobs in return for free accommodation in the hostel.

Do your research and find a funding option that works for you and your travelling plans.
