Hallmark Channel has scheduled its much-awaited holiday film, “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story,” for a November 30, 2024, launch. The movie is a Hallmark romantic comedy with NFL football thrills, all inspired by the very public romance between pop star Taylor Swift and Kansas City Chiefs tight end Travis Kelce.
The movie revolves around Tyler Hynes who stars as Derrick, the director of fan engagement for the Chiefs and the main character, Hunter King is Alana, a Chiefs die-hard superfan aiming for the “Fan of the Year” award. Their adventure follows Alana on an emotional journey through a fan contest, where sparks flying is between her and Derrick after the disappearance of Alana’s grandfather’s vintage winter Chiefs hat, and she does wonder if her family still wins.
“Holiday Touchdown” was filmed entirely on the streets of Kansas City and its suburbs in July 2024, albeit while the summer heat beat down. Chiefs fans gave an early Christmas present with Christmas sweaters at the shoot, adding to the festivities. Several Chiefs players and staff make cameos throughout the film, including head coach Andy Reid and mother to Travis Kelce, Donna Kelce.
The deal between Hallmark and the NFL will draw fans of football and Taylor Swift’s Swifties, reinforcing the idea that sports and pop culture have merged like never before. “This was a very collaborative project with the Chiefs to work on this film,” Hallmark Media programming senior vice president Samantha DiPippo said about the movie-making process.
“Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” is a part of Hallmark’s 2024 Countdown to Christmas. It promises an experience that is heartwarming and full of festivity for all. The movie premier will be accompanied by a special public red-carpet event in Kansas City, where fans can meet the cast and enjoy holiday festivities.
It has just the right mix of romance, football, and holiday cheer. “Holiday Touchdown: A Chiefs Love Story” will surely become one new favorite in the Hallmark holiday movie library.
