5 Tips for Practicing Positive Mental Health Habits

Good mental health is important at every stage of life from childhood, adolescents to adulthood. Mental health affects how we act, think, and feel and it affects every core of our being including emotional, social and physiological being. That is why making positive mental health habits a  priority cannot be overemphasized. Anyone suffering from depression, anxiety, panic and fears understand how challenging it is to maintain a healthy mental being. 

I understand this because I have seen a lot of people asking me for tips on how they can get out of this mental mess they found themselves in the first place. Hours of tossing on the bed with sleep being far-fetched. Days of being tired of life, everything and it looks like nothing has no meaning. Months of being plagued with anxiety and attack, and the list goes on. Although cultivating letting go of old habits might be difficult, it’s achievable. And these healthy habits can make a whole lot of difference in your overall well-being. 

Exercise

Human bodies are designed to move. Not to stay hours and hours behind televisions, or mindlessly scrolling on Twitter, playing video games or and any other things that make you a couch potato. You need to get up, move and stay active. It doesn’t have to be spending hours in the gym, simple exercise like biking in the park, taking your fur-baby for a walk, taking a stroll to the local store, going for long-distance running are crucial for your mental. And if you are up to it, you can sweat it out in the gym with 30 minutes of intense activity. It’s that simple when you are committed to it. 

Sleep

If you aren’t getting enough sleep, it can affect your physical and mental health. Consistent sleeping will allow your mind and body to rest and will gear you up to positively go into what the day has to offer. It’s a good therapy for your  mood and one that can make you steer clear of anxiety and depression. If you are having difficulty sleeping, one thing I always do is to cut out all distractions and set a routine that I stick to. Phone is off, TV is turned off and then I have to turn off my mind from all thought as well. I only got my mind to think that I’m going to bed to sleep and I’m doing just that. 

Meditate

I can’t stress the importance of meditation enough especially for those having serious medical conditions such as depression or anxiety attack. It is one of the best way to manage stress, bringing you a sense of peace, tranquil and balance. When practice consistently, it can be a powerful tool in managing every worries of life. 

Volunteer

 Volunteer your resources-time, money, and energy in helping others. There is something about helping others. When you help others, the ‘feel good’ hormones are released which help boost your mood and overall outlook. From homeless kids to those fighting depression, there are a lot of volunteering works you can venture into. You aren’t only contributing to a good course, you are creating your positive mental health habits.  

Live

LIVE, don’t just exist. This is an important mantra of life. Do things you enjoy. If you enjoy spending time in nature, painting, or any other. Really experience life and be grateful for the little things. Enjoy your life to the fullest and dwell in every bit of it.
