First Innings (SRH Batting)

In a thrilling encounter at the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium in Mullanpur, Mohali, Punjab Kings won the toss, and opted to bowl first against SRH. The first innings saw SRH put up a competitive total of 182 runs for 9 wickets in 20 overs.

The innings was kick-started with energy, but SRH faced early setbacks with the quick loss of Aiden Markram. However, Travis Head scored 21 off 15 balls. Abhishek Sharma provided a brief yet impactful innings, scoring 16 off 11 balls, showcasing his ability to accelerate early.

The spotlight of the innings shone brightly on Nitish Reddy, who crafted a masterful 64 off 37 balls. His innings was a blend of aggression and precision, hitting 5 sixes which played a pivotal role in building SRH’s total.

Despite some players getting starts, such as Rahul Tripathi and Heinrich Klaasen, SRH needed someone to carry on the momentum, which came in the form of Abdul Samad. Samad’s explosive 25 off 12 balls, striking at 208.33, added the much-needed late acceleration.

Contributions from Shahbaz Ahmed, who remained not out with 14 off 7 balls, further bolstered SRH’s position, ensuring they had a defendable total on the board.

Even the lower order, including Pat Cummins and Bhuvneshwar Kumar, added valuable runs towards the end. Every run added was crucial, considering the match ended with a narrow margin.

Arshdeep Singh (PBKS) was the standout bowler, taking 4 wickets for 29 runs in his 4.0 overs. Sam Curran and Harshal Patel also contributed with 2 wickets each

Kagiso Rabada (PBKS) also contributed with a wicket, bowling 4.0 overs and conceding 32 runs.

Second Innings (PBKS Batting)

In response, PBKS had a shaky start with Jonny Bairstow departing for a duck, putting early pressure on the chase. However, Shikhar Dhawan, the captain, steadied the ship with a patient 14 off 16 balls, but his efforts were not enough to keep the momentum going.

Sam Curran played a pivotal role in stabilising the innings. Curran’s explosive 29 off 22 balls, including 2 sixes, shifted the momentum in PBKS’s favour.

Sikandar Raza and Shashank Singh provided the late assault, with Raza scoring a quick 28 off 22 balls. Shashank Singh remained not out, scoring a vital 46 off 25 balls, ensuring PBKS stayed in the hunt till the very end.

Ashutosh Sharma also played a key role towards the end, remaining not out with a swift 33 off 15 balls, showcasing his ability to hit under pressure.  Bhuvneshar Kumar (SRH) took 2 wickets, bowling 4.0 overs.

Unfortunately, despite their efforts, PBKS fell short by just 2 runs, losing to Sunrisers Hyderabad.
