Glenn Maxwell

Glenn Maxwell scored the first double century in a World Cup match, smashing 201 not out off just 103 balls against Afghanistan in the group stage. He hit 18 fours and 14 sixes in his innings, which is also the most number of sixes by a batsman in a single World Cup innings. He also hit the most number of sixes by a batsman in a single World Cup innings, with 14 sixes.

He broke the previous record of 11 sixes by Chris Gayle in 2015. He also scored the fastest century in a World Cup match, reaching the milestone in just 51 balls. He broke the previous record of 52 balls by Kevin O’Brien in 2011. He also became the fourth Australian batsman to score a double hundred in ODIs, after David Warner, Shane Watson and Aaron Finch.

Virat Kohli

Virat Kohli is a highly accomplished and reliable cricketer, known for his prolific batting skills. Throughout his distinguished career, he has set numerous records and reached significant milestones. In the ICC World Cup 2023, he continued to break and create new records, showcasing his exceptional talent on the field.

He broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record of 49 ODI centuries by scoring his 50th century in the match, with a total of 117 runs. He also became the second Indian player, after Sachin Tendulkar, to achieve 1500 runs in the World Cup.

  • Virat Kohli has achieved 8 half centuries in this tournament, making him the leading batter in terms of such scores in a single edition of the ODI World Cup. Sachin Tendulkar and Shakib Al Hasan both had seven 50-plus scores each in the 2003 and 2019 editions respectively.
  • Kohli broke Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the most runs scored in successful ODI run chases. Tendulkar had amassed 5,490 runs in 124 innings. Virat Kohli has piled up 5786 runs in 96 innings in successful ODI run chases, at an amazing average of 90.40 and a strike rate of 97.16.

Mohammed Shami

Mohammed Shami took the best bowling figures in a World Cup match, claiming 7 for 19 in 8.2 overs against New Zealand in the semi-final. He broke the previous record of 7 for 33 by Andy Bichel in 2003. He also became the first bowler to take seven wickets in a World Cup knockout match.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer became the first batsman to score two consecutive centuries in a World Cup knockout stage, scoring 102 against England in the quarter-final and 109 against New Zealand in the semi-final. He also became the second Indian batsman after Sachin Tendulkar to score six centuries in a single World Cup edition.

Rohit Sharma

Rohit Sharma has made more hundreds than any other cricketer in World Cup history, with seven centuries to his credit. He overtook Sachin Tendulkar’s record of six centuries, which had been unbeaten for 12 years. Rohit Sharma is also the fifth highest run-maker in World Cup history, with 1,289 runs in 22 matches at an average of 64.45.

Additionally, he eclipsed Chris Gayle as the batter with the most sixes in international cricket. The West Indian icon had blasted 553 sixes in his international career. Rohit Sharma, after the match against New Zealand in Dharamshala, had 568 sixes in his kitty across all three international formats.

Rachin Ravindra

Rachin Ravindra became the youngest player to score a century in a World Cup match, at the age of 20 years and 273 days. He scored 102 off 112 balls against Bangladesh in the group stage. He also became the first player to score a century and take a five-wicket haul in the same World Cup match, taking 5 for 42 in 10 overs.

Daryl Mitchell

In the World Cup edition, Daryl Mitchell achieved a historic feat by becoming the first player to record 10 or more catches and score 500 or more runs. Over the course of 10 matches, he took a total of 11 catches and scored 552 runs with an impressive average of 61.33. Additionally, he also holds the record for scoring the fastest fifty in a World Cup match, achieving this milestone in just 18 balls against Sri Lanka during the group stage.

Highest Team Score

In a World Cup match, South Africa set a new record for the highest team total by scoring 428 runs against Sri Lanka. Three of their batsmen, De Kock, Van der Dussen and Markram, made history by scoring hundreds each in the same World Cup innings.

Best Run Chase

In ODI World Cup history, Pakistan made the largest run chase, racking up 345 runs against Sri Lanka in Hyderabad. Sri Lanka put forward an impressive tally of 344/9, featuring hundreds from Kusal Mendis and Sadeera Samarawickrama. Pakistan’s Abdullah Shafique and Mohammad Rizwan also smashed hundreds, as the one-time champions clinched the win with six wickets and 10 balls left.
