How to Cook Basmati Parboiled Rice

The prime food of most of the people in the world is rice. The reason is very simple because we can cook rice very easily in a variety of recipes. For a cup of rice, you need 2 cups of water and some salt according to your taste and desire. Place your pan on the stove, reduce the flame and cover the top. Cooking Basmati Parboiled Rice on the stove:

Ingredients:

Soaking of rice in water:

Before cooking soaking rice in warm water enhance the taste of rice but also reduce the cooking time by about 25%. So, it is recommended that to soak rice in water and leave them for about 30 minutes. After soaking remove water from the rice by putting it in a fine cotton cloth and take it under running water but be careful not to pour direct water on rice. The Pressure of water sometimes breaks rice grains and makes them unfit for certain dishes or ruins the presentation of food. However, soaking rice in water is not compulsory but if you do soak the rice in water, it will definitely increase its flavor but also improves its texture.

Boiling of water:

Take 2 cups of water in a clean cooking pot and boil water on high flame so that water starts boiling. Reduce the flame and add salt to the water. The addition of salt is completely optional some people do not like salt as they want to enjoy the pure rich taste of rice. So it is up to you but usually, a pinch of salt is enough to soothe your buds. Basmati Parboiled Rice is not sticky but on the safe side, you can add a spoon of cooking oil or much healthier olive oil in water for a better texture of rice grains.

Adding rice to boiling water: 

Add 1 cup of Basmati Parboiled Rice in the boiling water to make sure the flame of the stove is not high while adding rice to the cooking pot. Rice should be added to the pot gradually not to avoid splashes but also breaking of rice grains. Use a wooden spoon to give the rice a gentle stir because soaked rice is more prone to break than raw rice. As parboiled rice is partially cooked so, its cooking time is somewhat less so take that under your consideration. White rice is not partially cooked so it takes more time in cooking than Basmati Parboiled Rice. It usually takes about 30 to 40 minutes to cook properly. If you do not know about the type of rice check the packet of rice for accurate cooking instructions of respective rice. Soaking rice in water also reduces the time of cooking.

Boiling of rice 

Cover the cooking pot by stirring smoothly and keep the flame of the stove low. Parboiled rice cooked in just 15 minutes and keep checking after intervals of 5 minutes. If you did not soak rice before cooking then it takes about 25 to 30 minutes. For simple white rice, you need to keep boiling rice in the water until you notice water just a few millimeters above from rice surface in the pot. Reduce the flame and cover the pot and keep checking after intervals. After the required time remove the lid and stop the flame. Rotate the rice by spoon gently and take it out properly on the plate.

Serving of rice

The above quantity of rice is enough for 3 to 4 persons. If you want to cook rice for 2 persons then simply take each ingredient half and if you need to cook for 7 to 8 person double the ingredients. Boiled rice is usually served at the lunch table along with some vegetables or chicken curry to add flavor.
