How to prepare for class 10th Math

For many of us, Math equates to torment. However, if we look at the bright side, Mathematics is one of those scoring subjects, which when given enough time can help you score excellent overall results. It is one subject that you can easily score full marks in, which is why it should be given ample time and effort. After all, even if you don’t get the right answer, you can even score marks for getting the steps and formulas right.

Mathematics is a subject that does not require mugging. It is based on understanding concepts, calculation using formulas, and logical reasoning. As such, scoring highly requires you to practice A LOT, especially when you’re in class 10th. Let’s face it, preparing for class 10th maths is all about practicing regularly using both NCERT Books Class 10 Maths, and supplementary materials.

As such, if you are someone who loves this subject, or someone who is struggling with class 10 Maths, here are some effective tips that will help you in preparing for your maths exam!

  • The first and foremost tip is to get acquainted with the syllabus and exam pattern. There are students who begin their preparation without having complete knowledge of the topics they have to give more attention to. There are few topics that are more important than others and hence are allotted more marks. Understanding which topic has how much weightage will give you an edge over others and would also help you prepare your study plan. There are many websites including those of CBSE that will provide the help needed.
  • It is a must to treat your Class 10th NCERT as the supreme one amidst all the study material you have. If you want to score well in your maths exams, make sure you have completed the NCERT textbook before moving on to additional material as a significant chunk of your paper will be based on concepts covered in NCERT.

Start with the examples and then move to the exercises. Make sure to do each and every question of every exercise to become well versed with the topic.

  • Moving on, when you are well versed with your NCERT book, it is time to take the help of supplementary material. For class 1oth students, Maths books by R.D.Sharma or by RS Aggarwal are considered to be the most reliable reference books, thanks to how informative they are, and the bazillion practice questions they are packed with! Along with that, start solving previous year’s question papers, sample papers, and more. For that, you can never go wrong with the material offered by Oswal’s publications as they cover all types of questions from all years.
  • To complete your preparation on time, you need to follow a proper study schedule all-round the year. Making a pre-planned schedule will not only keep you on the right path but will also help your pace of solving various equations. Devoting an hour daily to practicing maths will definitely make a difference. Decide beforehand what topic is to be covered in that hour.
  • It is always advisable to jot down all the formulae and theorems in a separate notebook. If you have a separate notebook for calculation, make sure you also maintain a separate notebook for formulae. Noting formulas separately will help you access them whenever required and will also aid you in last-minute revision. After all, you wouldn’t have to go through textbooks searching for them every time you have to solve questions. In addition to writing them separately, you should also memorize them and should get them on your fingertips.
  • Solve every question step by step; don’t skip to the end result. In your exam, CBSE allots marks for every step, which is why even if your answer is wrong, you will get points for steps. Remember, this will not be the case with one-mark questions. In the case of one-mark questions, you will have to get the answers right. However, for the rest of the questions, you can score for getting the step rights.
  • Usually, students find it difficult to solve maths on their own so it is always advisable to take help from your teachers, tutors, friends, or family. Teachers in schools or your tutors should be the first ones you should approach if you are facing problems while solving questions. Secondly, join a study group with your friends in which you can help each other. You can also teach your friends and that will affix the topic in your mind. You all can share books, supplementary material, and also learn via games and other fun methods! Finally, there are a lot of forums, video tutorials, and more online that you can refer to for getting some help in case you are stuck. No matter what, do not skip a topic just because it’s difficult. Seek help, and you will be good to go!
  • One mantra, which is probably the most important one to follow during exam preparations is to take a deep breath and relax. Do not overload your brain and exert it as it will bring you no good. Give your brain time to relax and rejuvenate, so you can grasp better when you sit down to study again. Sitting in place and exhausting yourself with information, and trying hard to focus will eventually make it even more difficult to concentrate. As such, take a 15-20 minutes break in between your study time, and indulge in anything you like. Go for a walk or do yoga. You can get on a call with your friends, sit with your family, watch something funny, or do anything else you please. The point is to take some time off so as to go back more motivated.

Maths is a slightly difficult subject, but there’s no way you can’t ace it. By this time, you must have planned your studying strategy for class 10 maths in advance. Just keep yourself motivated and ace that milestone.
