Why is a Modern Lifestyle the Main Problem of the 21st Century?

For centuries, people lived a calm life and didn’t try to catch everything. In the last 100-200 years, there has been a sharp rise in technology, the development of medicine and the speedup of the life pace. Now we can’t always afford to spend a day idly in bed with a book. The lack of proper rest and the constant background noise in the form of music in the headphones and the TV, which works round the clock, lead to the appearance of depression and other nervous disorders. In this article, we will tell you why a modern lifestyle is the main problem of the 21st century.

We have a tight schedule

Most of us have an extremely saturated daily routine. We wake up early in the morning to have enough time to work out in the gym or run before work. Our working day doesn’t always last for eight hours and we often work at home as well. After the working day, we don’t rush home and try to make time for our hobbies or friends. Even in the evening when we are exhausted, our smartphones take away our time because we must check social networks or watch some funny videos on the internet. The abundance of constant activities, noise, and urgent matters don’t let us fall asleep and we can even spend the whole night sleepless.

Our bodies need enough rest

If the previous paragraph completely describes your daily schedule, you may notice that sometimes your body doesn’t work as it should. The most common signs that your body is exhausted include chest pain, memory impairment, insomnia, sudden fatigue, etc. All these symptoms can manifest various diseases that you may miss because of your tight schedule.  You should know that all organs in your body need some rest. If you can’t sleep at night because you are extremely overloaded with information or something else, your brain and other organs wouldn’t have enough rest.

What does such a lifestyle lead to?

Even if you try to follow a healthy diet and to sleep at least 7-8 hours a day, it doesn’t mean that you are completely healthy. Many conditions may occur because of stress. Heart attacks, cancer, and many other diseases affect thousands of people around the world. The lack of emotional rest throughout the day and the inability to relax make us more vulnerable to different mental disorders as well. Our main problem is that we actually don’t know what to do if we have spare time. The constant employment and desire to be effective keep us in tension that results in digestive problems and increased blood pressure.

How to avoid the negative consequences of a busy lifestyle?

First and foremost it is important to understand that you can’t manage everything and you actually shouldn’t. The reality is that the more tasks you try to do, the more tasks appear. Make time for rest and things you really like. One of the most effective methods to get emotional and mental rest is to take a walk in the woods or along the beach. However, it is better to leave your phone at home in order to eliminate your desire to check your e-mail or social networks.

If you feel tired because of your saturated lifestyle, it is better to avoid noisy parties and crowded places. Spend a calm evening with your family or settle down with an interesting book. It is important to enjoy the silence and fence off from the outside world in order to maintain peace of mind. This kind of rest will positively affect not only your emotional state but also your physical health.
